Pete Gitlin - Stay Strong (featuring Jacqueline Dunford)

I'm very proud to announce the release of my new single "Stay Strong", featuring former American Idol vocalist Jacqueline Dunford. This is a new direction for me... a more pop oriented song with with a message in the lyrics for everyone in this mixed up, crazy world. The song is available in two versions - the original retro soul version, featuring the great musicians who have played on my chart-topping contemporary jazz albums, including Grammy award winning keyboardist Michael Broening, bassist Mel Brown, sax player Ted Belledin and drummer John Herrera, who also produced the track. The second version is a John Herrera remix, which deconstructs the song, and gives it a darker, modern sound. Both versions of "Stay Strong" are available for download on iTunes and CDBaby. I hope you enjoy them, and continue to stay strong!

Pete Gitlin - Black Moon (featuring Ted Belledin)

Coming Together Music is excited to announce the worldwide release of the new single from contemporary jazz guitarist and composer Pete Gitlin - "Black Moon (featuring Ted Belledin)". Produced by John Herrera, it features great sax work by Ted Belledin, keyboards by Grammy award-winning producer Michael Broening, and the ace rhythm section of Mel Brown on bass and John Herrera on drums, along with Gitlin's work on guitar and vibraphones. In what may be a first, it's a contemporary jazz song with a ska beat...as Dr. Glyn Reece, Program Director and Manager of TheMoth.fm streaming out of the UK said when he first heard the song, "creativity personified".

I am proud and excited to announce the release of my new single, "Epiphany (for the children)", featuring the amazing vocals of Lea Cappelli. The song came to me nearly fully formed in a dream a couple of weeks after the Newtown tragedy. It is a somber and yet ultimately hopeful look at the world we live in, and that we hope it can be.

"Pete Gitlin's 'Amplify' gets front and center! The highlights...EVERY track! What a brilliant artist! I dig this album's spidery grooves and laid-back funky rhythm. So what makes this Alt Jazz? There's a progressive and contemporary side to Pete's music. It incorporates cool elements of pop, chill, and Americana, as well as headier jazz and rich melodies. Each track has a unique jazz-tone while keeping true to the original compositions. 'Amplify is hypnotic, reflective and upbeat! I look forward to Pete's next masterpiece!"

"Amplifier," Gitlin's second CD, which was released at last year's party, has meet with great success in the smooth jazz arena. The first single from "Amplifier," Lucky in Love, has been ranked in the top 10 on smooth jazz charts around the world, and is currently playing on over 90 radio stations and streaming audio sites.

Gitlin's debut CD, Full Circle and the Great Temptation (2008), was named one of the Top 10 smooth jazz CDs of the year in Canada; the single "Sunshine Days", featuring vocals by Valley singer Jodi Light, was No. 1 on the Ambiance Internet jazz charts for four weeks.

With production by John Herrera from the Phoenix jazz band Turning Point, "Amplify" combines jazz, funk and hints of fusion to create a new and exciting sound. "When I first talked to John Herrera about my goals for this CD, I told him I wanted to create the Sgt. Pepper of contemporary jazz," said Gitlin. "Obviously, that set an almost impossible standard to reach; but my goal was to use 10 original compositions as very basic tracks, then expand on them using our imaginations and today's infinite production possibilities." So on "Amplifier," you'll hear a string quartet and acoustic guitar in one song, an electric sitar in a jazz/country environment in another, and electronic wooshes and swirls in another. "The concept was to create 10 sonic paintings, each very different, but able to hang together in one musical landscape," he explained. Samples from both of Pete's CDs can be heard at www.petegitlin.com.

Gitlin has been playing guitar and bass professionally since the 1960s, and currently leads the Valley's longest-running jazz jam session at Pita Jungle in Chandler, originating in 2000. His band plays corporate functions and weddings, plus he plays bass in a three- piece rock band called The Allnighters. Gitlin also works as a business development manager for a green energy company out of Boston, and in his leisure time plays golf and rides his road bike.

For the Jazz in AZ Party, guitarist Gitlin will be supported by an all-star band anchored by Mario Mendivil-bass and John Herrera- drums. What better escape from "the dog days of summer" than listening to refreshing new sounds in the coolness of Kaz? Be there!

Coming Together Records proudly announces "Amplify", the second release from Phoenix-based guitarist and composer Pete Gitlin. Following up on "Full Circle and the Great Temptation", and its #1 hit "Sunshine Days", "Amplify" stakes out new ground in the alternative jazz genre. Early previews of the CD describe it as "the Sgt. Pepper of smooth jazz", in that each of the ten tracks are very different, and yet they hang together as an inspiring and uplifting work. Far from playing it safe, Gitlin and his producer, John Herrera, from the legendary Arizona fusion band Turning Point, have crafted a dizzying array of styles and songs, from the pure smooth jazz of the joyous single "Lucky in Love", to the neo-soul of "Soul Connection", to the raunchy beat of "Reggaetown", to the country/jazz feel of "Cowboys and Indians", to the Philly-soul sound of "Until the Morning Comes". A truly unique work, with production and excitement rare in the smooth jazz genre.

Plus there are fantastic performances from a variety of notable jazz stars, including:

  • Cindy Bradley - trumpet and flugelhorn
  • Jeff Kashiwa (The Rippingtons and Sax Pack) - saxophones, flutes and EWI (electronic wind instrument)
  • Dominic Amato - saxophones, EWI and vocoder
  • Michael Broening - keyboards
  • Mel Brown - bass
  • Dennis Rowland (former Count Basie vocalist) - vocals

"Amplify" is all about amplifying the joy that we feel when we discover exciting new music. Discover the new CD "Amplify", available April 17.
